Juan Castillo

Vitória de Guimarães have a Colombian goalkeeper at number 22. Born in Cali, he came up through Club Cardozo and the Escuela Carlos Sarmiento Lora before Fortaleza C.E.I.F. took him into their academy in 2019. He made his professional debut there in 2020 and stayed for six years, making 105 league appearances across the Categoría Primera B and Categoría Primera A before leaving as a free agent in July 2025 and signing with Vitória de Guimarães on a contract running to 2029.

The move to Portugal followed a run of attention back home. In March 2021, the CIES Football Observatory listed him among the most promising young goalkeepers in the world, and in 2023 a scorpion-kick save made headlines in Colombia.

At Guimarães he has had to wait his turn. When the club beat Sporting de Braga 2-1 in the final of the Taça da Liga in January 2026 to win the competition for the first time, Castillo was named among the substitutes but did not play; Charles Silva started in goal and saved a penalty in the closing stages to see out the win. Castillo picked up his first trophy at the club from the bench.
