About the player
Samu spent his youth years at Paços de Brandão and then FC Porto without ever breaking into a first team there, and it was only after joining Boavista that his career properly began, with a senior debut in 2013 followed by loan spells at Fafe and Espinho. He joined Vizela on a free transfer in July 2019. Over five seasons he made 147 appearances and scored 21 goals for the club.
When his contract at Vizela expired in June 2024, Samu signed for Vitória de Guimarães as a free agent and was handed the captaincy for the 2024/25 season. He added another honour in the 2025–26 campaign, winning the Taça da Liga with the club after scoring a penalty and setting up a goal in the final.
At international level, Samu was capped three times by Portugal's under-19 side in 2015, without scoring, and has not featured for the senior national team.
