About the player
Matija Mitrović grew up in Red Star Belgrade's youth system before a move to the Chicago Fire academy in the United States. He returned to Serbia in 2021, signing for FK Voždovac, where he worked through the youth categories and made his senior debut in 2023, going on to make 31 league appearances and score once for the club.
A move to FK Železničar Pančevo followed on a free transfer, and there the central midfielder's numbers improved: 34 appearances and two goals persuaded Vitória de Guimarães to pay a reported €900,000 for him in the summer of 2025. He took the number 6 shirt in the Primeira Liga and scored twice in his first 18 league appearances and picking up the competition's Goal of the Month award for September/October 2025.
He was part of the Vitória squad that won the 2025–26 Taça da Liga. On the international stage, Mitrović has represented Serbia at Under-21 level, making his debut against Turkey's U21 side in November 2024 and going on to feature at the 2025 UEFA European Under-21 Championship, though senior recognition has not yet followed.
