About the player
Tobias Ritchie scored on his first senior appearance. The midfielder, who also goes by Toby, made his debut for Bolton Wanderers in the EFL Trophy against Oldham Athletic and found the net in a 6–2 win.
He came to the first-team squad in November 2025 from inside the club. Bolton's academy is the only setting he has known: he came through the youth system, played for the Under-18s and later the Under-21s, and has not been loaned out or registered with another senior side. His first professional contract was a free arrangement with no transfer fee involved.
Cup football was already part of his youth career. In the FA Youth Cup he scored against Chester and against Leicester City, which gave him a record in knockout games before he reached the senior squad.
Since that night against Oldham, Ritchie has also featured in League One matches and in pre-season friendlies. Born in Farnworth, he has not yet won a senior trophy or an individual award.
