About the player
Yan Valery's most recent move came in February 2026, when BSC Young Boys took him on loan from Sheffield Wednesday until the end of the 2025–26 season. The deal, which carries no option to buy, followed an injury to Ryan Andrews.
Valery is a right-back who came through the Rennes academy and left for Southampton in 2015. The same year he won the UEFA European Under-17 Championship with France. He played seven times for the France Under-17 side and once at Under-18 level.
At Southampton he signed his first professional contract in 2017 and worked his way into the senior squad. In 2018–19 the club's supporters named him Saints Young Player of the Season. In January 2021 he went on loan to Birmingham City for the rest of that campaign.
He left Southampton in September 2022 for Angers SCO, for an undisclosed fee. In June 2024 he moved to Sheffield Wednesday in a deal reported at €2 million (£1.68 million).
His international path changed direction at senior level. Although he had represented France as a youth, he now plays for Tunisia. His debut came on 27 September 2022 in a friendly against Brazil, which Tunisia lost 5–1. He has since won 25 caps without scoring.
He has not won a major senior club trophy.
