Boluspor

The ground on Bolu's Atatürk Stadyumu holds 8,456, but for most of the 2024-25 season only 2,454 of those seats were open, with the rest closed off over fire safety and structural concerns. On 16 February 2025 the whole thing shut: the stadium failed an earthquake-resistance inspection.

That leaves Boluspor displaced from a town it has represented since December 1965, when two local sides — one dating to 1946, the other to 1954 — merged into a single club in red and white.

The merged club took four and a half years to reach the top flight, winning its group in the second tier in 1969-70, and its best years followed quickly. Third place in the Süper Lig in 1973-74 remains the high point: it carried Boluspor into the UEFA Cup against Dinamo Bucharest and into the Balkans Cup.

The other match people in Bolu still argue over came in the 1980-81 Turkish Cup final against MKE Ankaragücü. Boluspor had a goal disallowed and lost the tie, and the circumstances have been disputed ever since. A month or so of that same season had already brought the Prime Minister's Cup, won 3-1 against Adanaspor.

Since then the club has spent long stretches climbing back. It dropped to the third tier in 2012-13 under financial sanctions as much as results, returned to the 1. It now plays as Boluspor again.

The immediate problem is not the league table but the ground. Until the stadium is repaired or replaced, Boluspor's home fixtures depend on somewhere else agreeing to host them.
