Difaa El Jadida

The Throne Cup had gone unclaimed for 56 years when Difaâ El Jadida finally reached the final in 2013. Abdelhak Benchikha was in charge that season, and the club's one major trophy remains the Throne Cup.

El Jadida itself explains why the wait mattered so much. The club formed on 1 June 1956 out of a merger of local sides, among them Sporting Club de Mazagan, Difaâ Athletic Club and Hassania d'El Jadida, and it briefly carried the Sporting Mazagan name before settling on Difaâ Hassani El Jadidi. Everything else in the trophy cabinet has come in second place: runners-up finishes in the league in 1975-76, 2008-09 and 2016-17, and further Throne Cup finals lost, in 1976-77, 1984-85, 1985-86 and 2016-17. The league title itself has never come.

Zakaria Hadraf came through the academy and gave the club two spells either side of a spell away, from 2009 to 2017 and again from 2021 to 2022, before going on to win the African Nations Championship with Morocco.

Supporters know the club as Les Chevaliers de Doukkala, and matches against Raja Casablanca and Wydad Casablanca carry the weight of the wider Moroccan game, while the meetings with Olympique Dcheira and SCC Mohammédia stay closer to home. The team plays in green and white at the Ben M'Hamed El Abdi Stadium, now holding 15,000 after renovation work expanded it from its old capacity.
