Wydad AC

No derby in Africa carries a subtitle quite like the one played at Stade Mohammed V, where Wydad AC shares its own ground with Raja CA and calls the fixture the derby between enemy brothers. Both clubs come from Casablanca, both fill the same 45,000 seats on the day, and neither has ever needed an explanation for why it matters.

Wydad's own identity was set before a ball was kicked. Founded on 8 May 1937 by figures in Morocco's independence movement, the club carried a political charge from the start.

Continentally, Wydad's case rests on three CAF Champions League wins spaced across three decades — 1992, then 2017 against Al Ahly, then 2022 in a rematch against the same Egyptian club. The 2017 final is remembered locally for Achraf Bencherki's goal in it. The academy has since sent players outward rather than kept them: Mehdi Benatia and Nayef Aguerd started there too.

None of that changes what decides a season in Casablanca. Wydad and Raja meet at the same stadium, in front of the same crowd split down the middle, and the trophies in the cabinet matter less on derby day than which of the two "brothers" leaves Mohammed V still able to look the other in the eye.
