The club was founded on 21 July 1945.

The one run that still gets mentioned came in 2005–06, when M'saken were playing in the fourth division and went on a Tunisian Cup march nobody expected of a team at that level. They knocked out Jeunesse sportive d'El Omrane, then needed penalties twice more, against Avenir populaire de Soliman and Jeunesse sportive kairouanaise, before beating Stade tunisien, also on spot-kicks, to reach the semi-finals — the first fourth-tier side to get that far. Between 2004 and 2007, on the back of that spell, M'saken climbed four divisions in four seasons to reach Ligue 2.

The name most associated with the club is Zoubeir Baya, who came through its youth ranks before spells at Étoile du Sahel, SC Freiburg and Beşiktaş, and returned to M'saken to finish his career in 2005–06, the same season as the cup run.
