Platense

Puerto Cortés built its football around the docks that gave the town its living, and on 4 July 1960 that gave the district of Campo Rojo a club of its own: Platense Sport Club, later shortened to Platense Fútbol Club.

The club's best spell ran either side of the millennium. Platense took the Liga Nacional in 1965-66, then waited thirty-five years for a second, arriving via the 2000-01 Clausura. In between and after, the near misses piled up — runner-up finishes in 1996-97, the 2000-01 Apertura, 2002-03 and 2016-17 — a record of a team that reached finals more often than it won them. The Copa Honduras came three times, in 1996, 1997 and 2018, the last of those arriving after a long gap from the club's other domestic silverware.

A relegation to the second tier ended in 1982 with the Segunda División title and an immediate return, the only real interruption to a top-flight history otherwise spent among Honduras's established sides. Estadio Excelsior has held Platense's home games since; its capacity is listed at either 7,500 or 7,910 depending on the source, a discrepancy nobody at the club has bothered to settle.

What Platense has not managed is a Liga Nacional title since 2001, nor a Copa Honduras since 2018 — a port club still waiting on the next piece of silverware to match the two it won either side of the year 2000.
