Gabriel Mendes left Santa Catarina for Avaí in 2025; he came back in 2026.

The turn began with the Campeonato Catarinense Série C title in 2022, which brought promotion to Série B. A fourth-place finish followed in 2023, and then, in 2024, an unbeaten campaign that still ended in a loss on penalties to Caravaggio in the final. The runner-up finish was enough for promotion into the Campeonato Catarinense Série A for the first time. In that debut top-flight season, in 2025, Santa Catarina reached the semifinals and finished third overall, a result that opened the door to the Campeonato Brasileiro Série D and the Copa do Brasil, both to be played for the first time in 2026.

Santa Catarina did not take the field again until 2022, when the Rio do Sul city hall stepped in to bring the club back.
