Susan Ronan went further still: she played for the club in the 1990s and later managed Ireland itself.

The women's team traces back to Welsox, formed in Drumcondra in 1971 and twice FAI Women's Cup winners in the early 1990s before Shelbourne F.C. absorbed the club in 1995. The side went quiet for a stretch and was rebuilt in 2007, and it is from that restart that the current run of success dates. Since 2016 Shelbourne have taken the League of Ireland Women's Premier Division three times and the FAI Women's Cup three times, most recently in 2024, with a President's Cup added in 2025 and the All-Island Cup following in 2026.

None of it has come without needling the neighbours. Games against Shamrock Rovers carry the name Ringsend Derby, and there is no love lost there; the meetings with Bohemians, the Northside Derby, matter just as much to a club that has never had to travel far to find a rival.

Home is Tolka Park, in Drumcondra on Dublin's Northside, holding 5,700.
