Vitória Setúbal

The club grew out of a split from Bonfim Futebol Clube, formed under Joaquim Venâncio, Henrique Santos and Manuel Gregório, and took its current name on 5 May 1911, having briefly gone by Sport Vitória. The green and white it still wears was not its own invention: the colours came from Setubalense Sporting Clube, a rival that no longer counts for much, first worn by Vitória in a match on 21 June 1912.

The nickname Sadinos ties the club to the river the town sits on, reinforced by the dolphin that serves as its mascot. Domestic success came in bursts rather than a run: the Taça de Portugal three times, in 1965, 1967 and 2005, plus a Taça da Liga in 2008. In 1970 Vitória won the Small Club World Cup, but proof that a provincial side once measured itself against clubs from outside Portugal. In the league itself, third place in 1973–74 remains as high as it climbed.

The 2020s brought the opposite direction entirely. Financial collapse forced the liquidation of the club's SAD and a fall through the divisions that, by 2024–25, had Vitória playing in the district leagues of the Setúbal football association — a name that had contested European ties reduced to regional football. A promotion back into the Campeonato de Portugal for 2025–26 was the first step out of that hole.

None of it has revived the old fixture with Setúbalense, long since faded to irrelevance, so what rivalry Vitória has now runs through whichever club stands between it and the return climb it is only beginning.
