Wolfsberger AC beat TSV Hartberg 1:0 in the final in May 2025 to lift the ÖFB-Cup for the first time.

The club has never left Wolfsberg, a town in Carinthia. It was founded in 1931. In 2007 it entered a joint venture with the neighbouring SK St. Andrä, playing under the combined name WAC/St. Andrä while the two sides stayed legally separate. For the 2014/15 season it competed as RZ Pellets WAC, after its sponsor.

Promotion to the Bundesliga came in 2011/12, when the club topped the 2. Liga and left the second tier behind for good. The Lavanttal-Arena, home since 1984 under its old name of Sportstadion Wolfsberg, was rebuilt for that step up — capacity went from 6,500 to 7,300.

The club plays in black and white, with none of the elaborate nicknames attached to some of Austria's older sides; supporters and press alike simply call it WAC. Having spent over a decade establishing itself in the top flight, it now carries a first major trophy into the new season, with European qualification the target that comes with it.
