Fyllingen Women

Fyllingen Håndball's women now compete in the 1. Division, the second tier of Norwegian handball, sharing that level with several other Bergen sides. Their matches unfold at Framohallen in the Fyllingsdalen district, a hall built to hold close to 3,000 but fitted with 1,800 seats for league nights.

The team traces back further than its paperwork suggests. Fyllingen Idrettslag, the parent sports club, dates to 1946, and a women's handball side was already playing in the 2. divisjon by 1982, well before the handball department registered itself as a separate entity on 31 May 1995.

That entity did not stay whole. In 2010 the elite men's team broke away, first under the name Fyllingen Bergen and later, from 2021, as Bergen Håndball. The women's team and the youth sections stayed put, kept the Fyllingen Håndball name, and carried on in yellow and blue — colours that gave the club its nickname, "De gule og blå".

No NM Cup or league title sits on the women's side of the ledger; those belong to the men's team, which took the league in 2008/09 and the cup in both 2012 and 2013 before the split. What the women's team has instead is a settled place in Bergen's handball map, with Åsane Håndball as a regular divisional opponent and Tertnes Håndball Elite as the city's benchmark club — fixtures the local press files simply as byderby, city derby, rather than anything with a name of its own.
