Leipzig Women

Matches against HC Leipzig carry a different label than the usual rivalry — locals call them "Spitzenspiel", top-of-the-table meetings rather than a derby. HC Leipzig plays as the city's professional side, with German championships in 2009 and 2010 and DHB-Pokal wins to its name; the Piranhas have built their story in the divisions below.

Then the operating company behind the club went bankrupt in 2009, and the side that had been chasing the top flight started over in the Oberliga Sachsen, the sixth tier. Turid Arndt, once a goalkeeper for the German national team, is remembered from the club's playing history through that period.

The rebuild took the better part of a decade. SC Markranstädt worked back up to the 3. Liga by 2016/17, and under coach Jurate Kiskyte took a Regionalliga title in 2026. Yellow and green have stayed the club's colours throughout.

The name traces to a merger in Markranstädt, just outside Leipzig, that brought Turbine Leipzig into the new club on 17 November 1998 — the point the Piranhas count as their start.
