Western Province

Eighteen outright Currie Cup titles sit behind Western Province, the last of them taken in the 2003–04 season, with three more shared along the way — a run that stretches back to the 1892–93 campaign. The one-day game brought five further titles between 1985–86 and 2002–03, and the Twenty20 Challenge came twice, in 2010–11 and 2014–15, when the side played under the name Cape Cobras.

That name change ran from 2005 to 2021, after the professional franchise merged with Boland, before the side reverted to Western Province for the 2021/22 season. The Western Cape derby against Boland remains a fixture.

The club traces itself to a cricket association formed in Rondebosch in October 1864, and it has stayed at Newlands ever since, a ground that holds 25,000 and has watched the side through both identities. Graeme Smith and Jacques Kallis played during their most decorated era, while the academy has kept the pipeline running more recently, producing Temba Bavuma among others who went on to national colours.
