Warriors

Robin Peterson spent his playing days at the crease and then on the sideline for the same side, captaining the Warriors before taking over as coach. The team he led traces back to 2003, when Cricket South Africa's reforms merged Eastern Province and Border into a single professional outfit for the Eastern Cape. Before the Warriors name settled, the side played its first season as Eastern Cape, and for over a decade afterwards took the field as the Chevrolet Warriors under a sponsor's badge.

The four-day competition told a different story — across the franchise era the Warriors never once lifted that title. When Cricket South Africa dissolved the franchise system in 2021 and returned to provincial cricket, the Eastern Province Cricket Union kept the Warriors name as its brand rather than let it disappear with the structure that created it.

Matches against the Lions, Titans and Dolphins have carried the sharpest edge over the years. The team wears electric green, dark green and black, switching to pink each October for Breast Cancer Awareness. Home games are split between two grounds — Buffalo Park in East London and St George's Park in Gqeberha, the latter holding some 19,000 spectators when the ground fills for a big domestic tie.
