About

The Denmark Series - Relegation Round is the final stage of competition for the bottom half of the fifth-tier Denmark Series. This phase determines which clubs drop to the sixth-tier regional leagues. The format involves the five lowest-placed teams from each of the four regular-season groups. These clubs enter a post-season structure separate from the promotion playoffs. The regular season concludes with points not carried over into this stage. Teams finishing in the bottom five of their respective groups face elimination. The Relegation Playoff groups mirror the regional split of the regular season, with East and West divisions. Within these groups, the two lowest-placed teams are directly relegated. This ensures a clear path for teams to exit the national fifth tier. Survival is determined through qualification playoffs for teams finishing in the middle of the relegation bracket. These sides compete against clubs from regional leagues such as the Copenhagen Series or Jutland Series. This mechanism allows for promotion from the regional level to the national fifth tier, balancing the flow of teams between levels. The competition is strictly amateur, governed by the Danish Football Association (DBU) through its grassroots branch, DBU Bredde. Unlike the professional structures above it, this tier relies heavily on local sponsorship and volunteers. The regional grouping is designed to minimize travel for non-professional clubs. The league itself was founded in 1965, shifting from the fourth to the fifth tier in 1998/1999. While the national championship title was abolished in 2001, the focus remains on maintaining the league's structure for amateur development. The current season sees clubs like Karlslunde and Viby participating in these high-stakes matches. The outcome defines their place in the Danish football pyramid for the following year.
