GKS Katowice beat Wisla Plock 5-0 in the Ekstraklasa Regular Season round 5 on Sunday, with the hosts taking control early and never looking back. The result leaves Katowice fourth on nine points after five games, while Plock remain rooted to sixteenth place with just four points from their opening fixtures.
Markovic opened the scoring in the sixteenth minute, catching the Plock defence off guard before Jedrych doubled the lead from the penalty spot thirty-three minutes in. The visitors had their man warned — Wasielewski received a yellow card in the eighteenth minute — but could find no way back into the contest.
Plock kept possession, thirty-five per cent for Katowice against sixty-five, but the numbers tell only part of the story. They worked the channels and crossed more often, twenty-four times compared to eight, yet their shots lacked conviction. Seven attempts on target yielded one save; Katowice kept them in it with discipline rather than flair.
Resta pulled a third goal home in the seventy-third minute, then Shkurin added a fourth eighty-one minutes in. The visitors made changes, bringing on Jimenez and a flurry of others in the eighty-second minute, but the game was effectively put to bed. Kokosinski wrapped things up with two late goals in the ninetyth and ninety-second minutes of stoppage time.
What stands out is not the possession but the efficiency. Katowice created four big chances against two, and their shots on target hit the back of the net six times. Plock had more touches, five hundred and seventy-six passes to three hundred and seven, but the ball rarely threatened.
The gulf between the sides showed in the table. Katowice sit comfortably in the upper half after wins over Radomiak and a Europa Conference League qualifier against Hapoel Tel Aviv, while Plock have lost three of five league games and drawn once. This result does not change Katowice's position, but it makes the gap wider.
