Supers Nova claimed a straightforward victory over Liepajnieks in the First League regular season. The visitors secured a 2:0 win on Saturday evening, moving ahead of their hosts in the standings. It was a result that reflected the gulf in quality between the two sides. The home side struggled to create chances throughout the 90 minutes.
The game settled into a rhythm that felt familiar, much like the matches we saw last autumn. And here's the thing, the decisive moment came early in the second half. A. Malisevs opened the scoring in the 21 minute, catching the home defence off guard.
K. Birkse-Kloks extended the lead in the 51 minute, putting the result beyond doubt. The visitors looked comfortable, but the complexion of the game changed abruptly. V. Liepajnieks was sent off in the 65 minute after a second booking. The referee had no choice but to show the red card.
To be fair, the red card did not change the outcome, but it highlighted the pressure on the home side. Supers Nova sit 7th on 24 points. Liepajnieks languish in 11th with 12 points. The visitors maintained their position despite a recent heavy defeat.
The visitors come into this fixture with a fragile confidence, having lost their last match 3:0. Liepajnieks have won only 2 times in 18 games, a statistic that explains their position. They will need to find a way back into this season soon. The manager will face a difficult task ahead.
The final whistle brought little celebration from the home crowd. The visitors improved their goal difference by 2 goals. The players walked off the pitch without looking back.
