Riga FS II beat UEJFK Ventspils 4-1 in the 1. liga regular season on Saturday. The result came at the end of matchday 19, played at the home ground on 5 September 2026. Both sides were sitting in the lower half of the table before kickoff, and the visitors left with their position unchanged.
The opening goal arrived almost immediately. R. Dzeguze found the net at the first minute, catching the opposition off guard. To be fair, UEJFK Ventspils had not looked particularly sharp in their last fixture, drawing 1-1 away against Riga II. That early strike shifted the complexion of the game straight away.
A. Udrins doubled the lead at the 30th minute, giving the hosts a comfortable cushion. By then the visitors had settled into a defensive shape, but the opening goal had already taken the wind out of their sails. Riga FS II looked composed in possession, moving the ball with purpose rather than panic.
The third goal came at the 66th minute through A. Bukovskis, effectively putting the result beyond doubt. The visitors had not responded well to going behind and now faced a mountain to climb. V. Osuagwu added a fourth at the 75th minute, and the visitors' confidence appeared to have drained completely.
D. Rudgalvis scored the visitors' only goal at the 87th minute, a late consolation that did little to change the narrative. Riga FS II had ground out the win after a difficult run, having lost four of their last five matches including a heavy 1-12 defeat to Metta / Luxembourg. The result keeps them in 10th place on 15 points.
UEJFK Ventspils remain in 11th position with 12 points from 18 games. They had drawn their previous match against Riga II but this performance showed they still have work to do. The gap between the two sides in the table remains narrow, though the quality on the pitch was far from equal.
