Skanstē completed a remarkable comeback to defeat Riga FS II 4-3 in the Regular Season - 20 of the First League on Sunday. The visitors, sitting seventh in the table with 26 points, showed plenty of character after going behind twice in the opening half. Riga FS II, who sit tenth with 15 points, led 3-2 at the break and seemed to have the match won.
L. Livcans opened the scoring for the hosts in the 15th minute before A. Scerbinskis equalised for Skanstē just 12 minutes later. S. Boroviks restored Riga's lead with a goal in the 36th minute, and the home side appeared to be cruising towards victory. By then the crowd was building an atmosphere around the penalty area.
And here's the thing — the second half belonged entirely to Skanstē. L. Livcans scored his second goal of the match in the 60th minute to extend Riga's advantage, but the visitors refused to give up. K. Emenike pulled one back in the 70th minute, M. Sylla levelled in the 81st, and R. Celitans struck the winner in stoppage time. They worked hard for every inch of ground.
The result keeps Skanstē in seventh place while Riga FS II remain in 10th position. Both sides have played 20 games this season. Skanstē's record of eight wins, two draws and ten losses puts them nine points clear of the hosts in the standings.
Riga FS II will need to tighten things up if they want to climb away from the bottom half. Their recent form has been inconsistent — a 4-1 win over JFК Вентспилс last time out was followed by three defeats in four games. Skanstē, meanwhile, fancy their chances of pushing higher up the table with this kind of resilience on display.
