Juventud Unida — Mercedes: 4:1, Primera C

Juventud Unida saw off Mercedes 4-1 in the Primera C Regular Season opener on Saturday evening, extending their push for a top-four finish. The hosts controlled proceedings from the outset, opening the scoring inside the first quarter-hour and never looking back after a late Mercedes reply.

T. Chaparro broke the deadlock in the fourteenth minute, and A. Albistur doubled the lead just three minutes later. By then, Mercedes had already surrendered territory without mounting a threat, and the visitors could only watch as Juventud Unida built a cushion. To be fair, the home side kept knocking on the door even after the break rather than settling into a comfortable rhythm.

M. Paredes pulled one back for Mercedes in the sixty-fifth minute, but the visitors had no answer to I. Escobar's penalty in the seventy-third. E. Arreguin sealed the win six minutes later, and the result moved Juventud Unida five points clear of the visitors in the table.

Mercedes registered more attacks and corners yet failed to convert their dominance into meaningful chances. Juventud Unida won possession in 57 per cent of the match, and their seven shots on target produced four goals. The visitors' eight shots on target yielded just one — a statistic that tells you everything about how the game unfolded.

Juventud Unida remain fifth with 38 points after twenty-six games, while Mercedes sit eighth on 36 points. The gap between them has widened, and both clubs are now weighing up how to respond in the fixtures ahead.
