Trethomas Bluebirds saw off Afan Lido 5:2 in their Welsh Championship South Five fixture on Thursday evening. The result lifted the hosts to eight points after six matches, while the visitors dropped to seventh with seven points. By then the stage was set for a straightforward afternoon for the home side.
Bluebirds opened the scoring in the thirteenth minute and doubled their advantage shortly before half-time. Afan Lido pulled one back in the forty-eighth minute but could not find another reply. The visitors added a consolation in the seventy-first minute before Trethomas sealed the win with two late strikes.
The home side had started the campaign with mixed results. A 1:2 defeat to Pontypridd Town on 21 August was followed by a 2:4 loss to Caerau (Ely) and a 1:1 draw with Llanelli. They had also managed a 0:0 draw against Baglan Dragons before a heavy 1:5 defeat to Barry Town on 14 July.
Afan Lido's recent run looked slightly better on paper. They beat Pontardawe Town 1:0 on 21 August, lost 1:3 to Carmarthen Town, and then thrashed Llanygyrch Major 5:0 on 7 August. A 2:5 defeat to Aberystwyth Town and a 1:2 loss to Cardiff Met rounded out their five previous outings.
The victory moved Trethomas up one place in the table. Afan Lido dropped from ninth to seventh after the result, though both sides remain mid-table after six games.
