Trethomas Bluebirds spent much of the 2023-24 season in Ardal South East, and won it, going up to Cymru South and following that with a runners-up finish the year after. The season before delivered the Dragon Signs Amateur Trophy, and the one before that the Ardal South East Cup.

The club started out as Trethomas Football Club in 1903. The Bluebirds name came later, borrowed by one of the founders from Cardiff City, whose own supporters already went by that nickname.

Promotion has come in stages rather than a rush. Gwent County League Division Three was won in 2005-06, Division One a decade later in 2015-16, and each step up brought a different tier of Welsh football: the Welsh Football League, then a place among the founding clubs of Ardal South East when that division was created in 2021-22.

Home games are played at the CCB Centre for Sporting Excellence, which holds 1,000.

On 1 July 2026, at 42, Michael Chopra signed for the club — a forward who once played for Newcastle United, Sunderland, Cardiff City and Queens Park Rangers, now turning out in Cymru South.

Derby weekends bring Abercarn United, from the same county, and Newport City across the wider Gwent divide.
