The winner came in the 90th minute, scored by midfielder Victor Okishor. It arrived late in a match Dynamo had struggled to break open, despite being handed a way through 41 minutes earlier.

On 49 minutes, the video assistant intervened and referee Pavel Kukuyan pointed to the spot after 25-year-old Orenburg midfielder Evgeni Bolotov, who joined the club in February and has three goals to his name this season, handled the ball in his own area. Dynamo defender Maxim Osipenko took the penalty and saw it saved by Orenburg goalkeeper Bogdan Ovsyannikov, 27, who has yet to concede on his own account of the shot-stopping duel.

Orenburg finished the match with nine men. In stoppage time, midfielder Ruslan Kul and French defender Maxime Sivis, 28, both picked up second yellow cards. Sivis's dismissal triggered a mass brawl on the pitch.

Dynamo coach Sandro Schwarz addressed his players in the dressing room afterwards.

The result leaves Orenburg 10th on eight points. Elsewhere in round eight, Zenit beat Lokomotiv 2:1 in Saint Petersburg, with Alexander Rudenko opening the scoring for the visitors in the 18th minute, and CSKA dropped points in a 1:1 draw with Rubin that cost them top spot.

Second place after eight rounds is an early marker rather than a settled position, but for Dynamo it caps a week in which the head coach has been vocal about squeezing more from a side that is yet to convince over 90 minutes on current form.
