Alexander Nollenberger

Alexander Nollenberger came to professional football by a longer road than most of his peers. He spent his youth years at TSG Thannhausen before joining FV Illertissen, and it was there that he first made his mark as a goalscorer, netting 13 times in 16 appearances for the club's second side.

A move to Bayern Munich's reserve side followed, a step that put him inside one of the country's biggest football institutions without ever involving the senior squad. His time there was steady rather than spectacular, and he left for SpVgg Bayreuth. That switch paid off: across three seasons in Bayreuth he scored 25 goals in 80 appearances, numbers that made him a wanted man further up the football pyramid.

Magdeburg came in for him on a free transfer, and he has since become a regular fixture in the squad, making 82 appearances for the club. His goal return in Magdeburg's colours has been more modest than in Bayreuth, but he has continued to feature consistently in a competitive second-tier squad. He plays predominantly as a forward, though he has been used in wide areas too, a versatility that has helped him hold down a place in the side.

Nollenberger has never been capped by Germany at any level, and his career so far has been built without the marquee moves or individual honours that tend to define a player's page. What stands out instead is the pattern of his rise: modest beginnings in Thannhausen and Illertissen, a formative spell in Bavaria's shadow squad, and a prolific run in Bayreuth that carried him into the 2. Bundesliga.
