About the player
Anselmo García MacNulty was born in Seville and holds dual Spanish and Irish citizenship, qualifying for Ireland through his mother, Maeve, from County Clare. That dual background has shaped his international career: he has represented the Republic of Ireland at youth level, playing seven times for the under-19 side and twelve times for the under-21s, without yet adding a senior cap.
His path through the game began in Spain, with a spell in Real Betis's youth ranks, before he moved to Germany to join VfL Wolfsburg's academy. He progressed into Wolfsburg's senior squad in 2021, and the following season went out on loan to NAC Breda in the Netherlands to gain first-team experience. In 2023, he left Wolfsburg on a free transfer to sign for PEC Zwolle.
His time at Zwolle is due to run into 2026, and a further move awaits: in June of that year he is set to join 1. FC Magdeburg in Germany's 2. Bundesliga, taking him back to the country where his senior career first began.
