About the player
Peru is where Cristian Jonatan Ortíz found out what he could do. Loaned out from Independiente, where he had made just three appearances in three years, he scored 20 goals in 40 matches for Universidad San Martín in 2016.
The Rosario-born player started at Real Arroyo Seco in 2008 and moved to Racing of Montevideo two years later. The Independiente spell that followed brought almost no football, and from 2016 onwards his career ran through loans. After San Martín came Sporting Cristal, 39 matches and 11 goals in 2017, then a second stint at San Martín in 2018 and a return to Cristal for 2019–20.
Independiente del Valle signed him in 2020: 32 matches, 12 goals. Tijuana followed — 17 matches, no goals across two and a half seasons, with 2022 split between loans at Charlotte FC in MLS and Defensa y Justicia. A move to Barcelona SC in Ecuador produced one goal in 25 games.
At Sport Recife from 2024 he played 36 league matches, scored four, and won the Pernambuco state championship in both 2024 and 2025. He left on a free transfer for América Mineiro in July 2025 and played 12 matches there before another free move, to Novorizontino on 30 January 2026.
His position has never been fixed. The club lists him as an attacking midfielder, English-language sources call him a winger, and his career total of more than 60 goals points further forward still. At Novorizontino he has 14 appearances in 2026 across Série B and the Paulista, without a goal. He has never played for Argentina.
