About the player
Darwin Nazareno came through the youth ranks at Universidad Católica, signing his first professional contract with the club in February 2022 while still a teenager out of the U19 side. That same year he made his breakthrough at senior level, playing ten league matches and scoring his first goal for the first team.
The path then took an unusual turn. Rather than continuing at Universidad Católica, Nazareno moved to the United States to join San Antonio FC, where he spent roughly two seasons, from 2024 into 2025. Across around 25 appearances for the American club, he added two goals and an assist.
He returned to Universidad Católica in 2025. Nazareno was part of the squad that won the Copa Ecuador that year. Now wearing number 24, he has featured in 14 league matches this season, with one goal and one yellow card to his name.
Nazareno's name briefly surfaced in unrelated reporting around a kidnapping case in Ecuador in December 2021, but local outlet ALDIA later clarified that the report concerned a different individual tied to a financial fraud case, with no connection to the footballer.
