About the player
Mauro Alberto Díaz came through River Plate's academy, staying with the club through the relegation to the second division in 2011 and playing on in B Nacional before a loan spell at Unión Española in Chile.
His move to FC Dallas in July 2013. Díaz was named MLS Player of the Month in March 2014 and made the MLS Best XI in 2016, the same year Dallas won the Supporters' Shield.
In July 2018 he left MLS for Shabab Al Ahli in Dubai on a three-year contract. He returned to Argentina with Estudiantes as a free agent in 2020, then moved to Chile with Palestino before joining Universidad Católica in Quito as a free agent in 2023, where he now wears the number 28 shirt. With the Ecuadorian club he added the Copa Ecuador in 2025.
Díaz never played for Argentina's senior side, though he was called up to the under-20s in 2009 and 2010, appearing four times without scoring.
