Mauricio Sebastián Alonso Pereda

Twelve years after leaving Cerro as a teenager, Mauricio Alonso has settled in Ecuador, where his form for Universidad Católica has turned him into one of the club's most productive attackers. Since joining the club in the middle of 2025, the Uruguayan forward has scored 13 goals in 48 league appearances, and helped the side lift the Copa Ecuador the same year.

Alonso started out at Cerro in Montevideo, before a move to Mexico's Atlético de San Luis. He returned home on loan to Sud América, then went back to Cerro before crossing the river to Argentina, where he spent a season and a half at Villa Dálmine and scored eight goals in 32 matches. A short spell in Spain with Lorca Deportiva followed, then several years in Argentina with Deportivo Morón.

He returned to Uruguay in 2021 for a season with Central Español, contributing six goals in 29 appearances, before a move to Ecuadorian football reshaped the second half of his career. Mushuc Runa gave him his first taste of the league in 2022, and after a year at Guayaquil City he went back there in 2024, building the most substantial run of his career: 93 matches and nine goals for the club before his transfer to Universidad Católica.

Alonso has never been capped by Uruguay. His career has been defined less by a single defining move than by steady output wherever he has played, culminating in the goals and the cup medal he has produced in Ecuador at 32.
