Gonzalo Maroni

His first taste of senior football came at Instituto in 2015, before Boca paid roughly €600,000 to bring him to Buenos Aires. He broke into the Boca first team the following year and picked up domestic honours along the way, winning the Argentine league title and, later, the Copa Argentina and the Liga Profesional Cup. But first-team minutes at Boca stayed scarce, and the loan moves piled up: Talleres, then a switch to Serie A with Sampdoria, where he played sparingly and a €15 million buy option was never taken up.

The most productive stretch of his career came in Mexico. On loan at Atlas, Maroni won back-to-back league titles in the Apertura 2021 and Clausura 2022, then added the Campeón de Campeones. Spells at San Lorenzo, Tigre and Newell's Old Boys followed, each bringing more regular game time than he had found at Boca itself. His most recent move took him to Barracas Central on loan for the 2026/27 season, still wearing the number 33 shirt he has kept through several of his loan spells.

At youth level, Maroni represented Argentina's under-20 side, scoring several goals in that spell, though he has not been capped by the senior national team.
