Gustavo Aguilar

Gustavo Aguilar came through Libertad's own academy and made his first-team debut in 2019 before the club sent him out to sharpen up. The loan spell that put him on the map was his first at Tacuary, in the second tier of Paraguayan football, where he scored 21 goals in 16 matches — the kind of return strikers get remembered for. A second loan to Tacuary followed, this time in the top flight, then a move to Nacional in January 2023, where he settled into a regular scoring rhythm, finding the net 13 times in 39 appearances.

He returned to Libertad at the start of 2024, this time to stay. His minutes there have been harder to come by than a forward would want — one goal in 26 league appearances that year — but he was part of the squad that won the Apertura 2024 and the Paraguayan Super Cup. The two league titles Libertad won in 2023 came while he was still out on loan at Nacional, so those medals passed him by.

In the 2025 season Aguilar has pushed for a regular starting role, contributing eight appearances and two goals in the domestic league by mid-year. His clearest mark on the continental stage came in the Copa Libertadores, where a goal against Peru's Alianza Lima in March 2025 stood out among his five appearances in the competition. Left-footed, he has built his career on the kind of scoring form that carried him out of the second division and, eventually, back through Libertad's front door.
