About the player
Herbert Bockhorn's route to professional football ran through two youth academies in Kiel before Werder Bremen took him on in 2006, where he spent eight years working through the club's U17 and U19 sides. He made his senior bow with Werder's reserve teams, splitting the 2014–15 season between Werder Bremen II and Werder Bremen III, then moved on to SC Wiedenbrück 2000 and a three-year stint with Borussia Dortmund II.
A move to England followed in July 2019, when he joined Huddersfield Town. It brought him only one senior appearance, an EFL Cup tie against Lincoln City that ended in defeat, and no league football. He left on a free transfer in 2020 for VfL Bochum, where his career found firmer footing: 42 appearances across the 2. Bundesliga and Bundesliga, with a single goal to his name.
Bockhorn joined 1. FC Magdeburg as a free agent in September 2022, where he now plays right-back wearing the number seven shirt. Born in Kampala, he holds Ugandan citizenship by birth alongside German nationality gained through naturalisation, and that dual background has opened the door to international recognition: he was called up to the Uganda national team for a 2019 AFCON qualifier against Tanzania.
