Jairo Sebastián O'Neill López

Jairo Sebastián O'Neill López started his professional career at Peñarol, one of Uruguay's most decorated clubs, though his run there lasted only four appearances across 2021 and 2022. A move to Fenix followed in 2023, where the defender featured more regularly, making 11 appearances for the Montevideo side. That same year he crossed the border to Argentina, joining Unión Santa Fe.

The defining moment of his career so far came with Uruguay's under-23 side rather than at club level. Called up for the 2023 Pan American Games in Chile, O'Neill López came off the bench in the match for fifth place against Colombia, which finished goalless after normal time. The tie went to a penalty shootout, which Uruguay won 4-3, and it was O'Neill López who stepped up to take — and score — the first spot-kick of the series. He went on to make four appearances for the under-23 team without adding a goal from open play.

He has since been linked with Boston River, wearing the number 24 shirt, though the terms of any move to the club have not been made public. Born in Paso de los Toros, in Uruguay's Tacuarembó department, he has yet to be capped by the senior national team.
