Juan Ignacio González Quiroga

Juan Ignacio González Quiroga's career has taken him further from Uruguay's football map than most goalkeepers of his generation, with barely a stop in his homeland since he turned professional. He began in Mexico in 2013 with Leones Negros UdeG, and it was there, in the country's lower-tier clubs, that he built the bulk of his playing record, with two separate spells at Inter Playa del Carmen bracketing a period at Reynosa.

His return to South American football came with IASA Sud América, where he played a part in the side's promotion to Uruguay's top flight. A loan move to Paraguay's Sol de América in 2022 gave him a run in continental competition, including an appearance in the Copa Sudamericana against General Caballero JLM.

In 2024, as a free agent, González Quiroga signed with Atlético Tucumán in Argentina, a contract that has kept him in the country's top division through the following two seasons. Boston River now becomes his return to Uruguayan football after more than a decade largely spent abroad, in Mexico, Paraguay and Argentina.
