Kolbeinn Birgir Finnsson

Kolbeinn Finnsson's career has taken him through academies and reserve sides across four countries before he found a settled first-team home. The Reykjavík-born left-back started out at Fylkir before moving abroad as a teenager, joining Jong Groningen and later Brentford. A spell with Borussia Dortmund's second team followed, where he won the Regionalliga West title in the 2020–21 season, before a move to Lyngby in Denmark.

Utrecht signed him in August 2024 for a fee of €500,000. His time in the Netherlands proved to be a stepping stone rather than a destination: in February 2026 he joined Vålerenga on loan, and the following month the Norwegian club activated an option to make the transfer permanent.

Finnsson has represented Iceland at senior level, earning 14 caps since making his debut in January 2019, though he has yet to score for his country. His development was marked early, with a bronze medal at the 2014 Youth Olympic Games as part of Iceland's under-16 side, and he picked up an individual award as best player at the Saint-Joseph tournament in 2017. At club level he also won the Middlesex Senior Cup with Brentford's B team.

A left-footed defender who stands 181cm tall, he is the latest stop in a career built on moves between academies and second teams before establishing himself in Norway.
