About the player
Lucas Cueva Gordillo joined the Quito club's academy structure in the 2017/2018 season. By 2021 he had a place in the first-team squad and made his debut in Ecuador's Liga Pro, having already featured on the roster during the club's 2020 Copa Sudamericana campaign.
In April 2022 he left for San Antonio FC, a second-division side in Serie B. He returned to Universidad Católica afterwards, a move that followed the departure of Venezuelan goalkeeper Rafael Romo from the club. Back at Católica, Cueva now competes alongside Johan Lara for minutes between the posts.
Cueva has represented Ecuador at multiple youth levels, called up across the U15, U16, U17, U18, U20, U21 and U23 age groups. He has not featured for the senior national team.
