Miguel Marcelo Brizuela

In February 2026, in his first months in Chilean football, Miguel Marcelo Brizuela stepped up to take a penalty against Bahia in the Copa Libertadores and scored.

He came through the youth ranks at River Plate before moving to the Vélez Sarsfield academy in 2011. The wait for a senior debut was long: it arrived on 28 July 2019, and the years that followed brought more loan spells than starts in Buenos Aires. In 2024 he played 24 league matches on loan at Instituto; in 2025 he made 31 appearances for Atlético Tucumán, scoring twice.

His time at Vélez was overshadowed by a criminal case. In late 2020 and early 2021, Brizuela and his teammate Thiago Almada were accused of sexual assault, and both were temporarily suspended from training. The charges were later reclassified and the players returned to competition.

When his Vélez contract was terminated in January 2026, he left as a free agent and signed with O'Higgins until December 2027. He played continental football in both the Copa Libertadores and the Copa Sudamericana in his first year at the club, plus the penalty against Bahia.

He has never been called up by Argentina, at any level, and no major titles or individual awards appear in his record. At 33, the defender is building the first stretch of his career outside Argentina.
