About the player
Berlin born and Magdeburg raised, Magnus Baars has never had to leave home to chase his career. He joined the club's academy in 2016 and worked through the U17, U19 and U23 sides before signing his first professional contract on 23 January 2025.
His breakthrough came that same spring. On 12 April 2025 he came off the bench in the 83rd minute against SSV Ulm 1846 in the 2. Bundesliga, his first taste of senior football, in a match Magdeburg lost 1-0. Before that he had already made the point with the U19s, scoring 13 goals in 11 matches during the 2024/25 season.
That form was recognised in August 2025, when Magdeburg's youth academy named him NLZ-Spieler der Saison, its player of the season, with 65% of the vote.
A forward comfortable on either foot, Baars now has a professional deal to go with the pathway he built through the club's youth ranks. What comes next, in terms of first-team minutes at senior level, remains to be seen.
