Marcelo Fernandez

Marcelo Fernández scored the goal that beat Mali in the group stage of the Paris Olympics, part of a run in which he found the net three times in Paraguay's Under-23 campaign.

He made his first-team debut for Libertad on 16 August 2021 against 12 de Octubre, and the club won the Apertura title that same season with him already on the books. The following year, in February 2022, he moved out on loan to Tacuary, where he became a regular fixture, playing 37 matches and scoring six goals, starting with his first for the club against Sportivo Luqueño in March.

Fernández returned to Libertad at the start of 2023. The club won both the Apertura and Clausura that year, along with the Copa Paraguay, and he opened his account in the cup competition with a goal against Sol de América in August. He has since featured in the club's title run in the 2025 Apertura as well.

His performances for the Olympic squad drew the most attention beyond domestic football. Alongside the goal against Mali, he also scored against Israel during the Paris tournament. He has yet to add a senior cap to his record, with his international involvement so far confined to the Under-23 side.

Marcelo Fernández wears the number 28 shirt at Libertad, the club where his career began and where, aside from the year on loan at Tacuary, it has stayed ever since.
