About the player
Mexico had never won a women's football gold at the Pan American Games until Santiago 2023, and Nicki Hernández started all five matches on the way to it. The left-back was born in Naperville, Illinois, holds both American and Mexican citizenship, and chose Mexico, making her senior debut in 2022.
Before that came four years at Michigan, where she played 93 matches and scored 29 goals. She was named to the third All-Big Ten team in 2019, the first team in 2020 and the second in 2021, the year Michigan won the Big Ten title.
She turned professional in 2022 with Club América, joining as a free agent, and stayed four seasons. She made well over a hundred appearances and scored 12 goals, winning the Liga MX Femenil title in the Clausura 2023 tournament. América reached the league final five more times with her in the side.
The 2024 CONCACAF W Gold Cup gave her both ends of a tournament: a goal against the Dominican Republic in an 8-0 win, then a red card in the semi-final against Brazil. She has 28 caps and one international goal.
On 5 January 2026 she signed a two-year contract with Boston Legacy, again as a free agent, with no transfer fee. Her first NWSL season brought 13 appearances and no goals.
