About the player
Left-footed and 187 cm, Samuel da Silva Alves arrived in Portugal in the summer of 2026 on a deal that runs to 2030 — a transfer his former club kept a stake in. Botafogo retained 10 per cent of the striker's economic rights when Rio Ave completed the signing on 3 July 2026.
The numbers that got him there came from Brazilian youth football. Alves scored 19 goals in 2024 and 21 in 2025 while moving up through Botafogo's U17, U19 and U20 sides. He had joined the club in 2024, after coming through Flamengo's system; before that he was at Brasilis, where he started.
The step up came in 2026, when he made his debut for Botafogo's senior team. He also played one match for the U20s in the Carioca A that year, the Rio state championship.
Reports on what Rio Ave paid do not agree. The Brazilian outlet GE Globo put the fee at around 3.5 million reais, roughly 600,000 euros; A Bola in Portugal reported 500,000.
In Portugal the beginning has been quiet. Alves has made one appearance in the Liga Portugal in the 2026/2027 season, without a goal or an assist. He is yet to be called up by any Brazil youth side; no individual honours are recorded against his name either.
Born in Rio de Janeiro, he has spent his whole career in the city's clubs until now.
