About the player
Sander Åke Andreas Lønning grew up between two footballing cultures. Born in Stockholm, he started out with AIK before moving through Djurgården and FC Djursholm, and only came to Norwegian football at 16, when his family relocated to Sandnes and he joined the Sandnes Ulf academy.
He made his senior debut for Sandnes Ulf in 2020 and went on to make 36 league appearances for the club. The turning point came in 2023, on loan at Egersund, where he played a part in the club's promotion from the 2. divisjon. The following year he made the move permanent, signing with Egersund on a three-year contract.
That spell proved to be the platform for a bigger step. Vålerenga signed Lønning from Egersund, taking him into Eliteserien football for the first time on a contract running to the end of 2029.
Internationally, Lønning has represented Norway at youth level, earning caps for the under-20 side in 2021 before a call-up to the under-21 squad in 2024. He holds dual Norwegian and Swedish citizenship, with a Norwegian father from Ræge and a Swedish mother.
