About the player
Xavi Moreno Layme's first minutes as a professional came late and away from home: on 17 May 2021, with Sport Boys already two goals down to Alianza Lima, he was sent on in the 89th minute. Over three seasons at the club he added only around six league appearances and one in the cup, without scoring.
He had come through the youth ranks at FBC Melgar in his native Arequipa, joining the setup in 2015 and staying until 2020, but never broke into the senior side there. A defender who is comfortable at centre-back and can be used in midfield, he plays off both feet, and the reason coaches have been able to move him around.
In January 2024 he signed as a free agent for Deportivo Llacuabamba in Liga 2, and there he finally got a season rather than a handful of substitutions: 19 matches and a goal. On 10 January 2025 Deportivo Garcilaso announced his signing; no fee was disclosed, and his contract runs to 31 December 2027.
He has represented Peru at under-20 level. No senior cap has followed so far, and no team or individual honour is recorded against his name.
