Hartford Athletic put its name on this team first, in 2021, before the plan changed course: by that November the side had been restructured and folded instead under AC Connecticut, the men's club that had itself started out in 2011 as CFC Azul. The women's team kept that borrowed identity into 2022, when it took the field for the league's first-ever USL W League season. In 2025, Hartford Athletic said it would field its own women's side from 2026, a separate operation from AC Connecticut Women — a split that leaves the two Hartford clubs on their own paths after growing from the same idea.
On the field, AC Connecticut Women has settled into the middle and lower reaches of its division, without a title or a playoff run to point to. The club has not settled on a nickname either.
Its games are played at Trinity Health Stadium, a ground that holds 5,500 and can be pushed out to 10,000, in blue, black and white. What the club has behind it, more than results, is that first, unfinished attempt at a name — a women's affiliate born under one club and handed within months to another.
