Avarta

The best of it came in 1982. Avarta went up to the 2nd Division and, in the same year, reached the semi-final of the Danish Cup, where B 93 beat them 0:3. There were further seasons in the second tier at the end of the eighties and again in the mid-nineties, a relegation in 2006, a return two years later, and then, in 2020/21, a drop out of the division for the first time in 13 years. The response was quick — a preliminary group won in the Denmark Series that same year, and promotion to the 3rd Division. In 2023–24 they finished fifth.

The name itself is older than anything on the pitch. Awarthae is a medieval Danish word for a riverbank, or sheltered ground beside water, and it was what people once called the land west of the Damhusåen in Rødovre. The club that took it was a month old at the time, founded on 29 January 1953 by a group of young men — the eldest of them 17 — who had started out calling themselves Rødovrevejens Boldklub.
