Benfica

Portuguese emigration to Macau in the twentieth century carried more than trade and administration with it — it carried Benfica. Supporters of the Lisbon club living in the territory formed a house for it, Casa do Sport Lisboa e Benfica em Macau, on 17 October 1951.

The branch went quiet in the early 1990s and stayed that way until 2008, when it was revived. Promotion into the Liga de Elite followed by 2012, and six league titles since, in 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2024, plus four Taça de Macau wins.

That run has not carried through cleanly. BDM was later left out of the AFC Challenge League over infrastructure and funding shortfalls.

Domestically, the fixture that matters most is against Sporting Clube de Macau — the Derby de Lisboa. Chan Man, named MVP of the league in 2016 and capped by a spell at SC Olhanense in Portugal, is the name most associated with BDM's title years; Carlos Leonel remains the club's scorer of reference.

BDM plays its home fixtures at the Macau Olympic Complex Stadium, in front of a capacity of 16,272.
